Plant cell and tissue transformation is the process through which the endogenous DNA is modified to understand or enhance the plants genetic makeup. Using tissue culture, new plant or cell lines are generated and from these transformed events which host the modified DNA within their genomes.
The Plant Tissue Culture and Transformation Facility currently consists of a 880 sq. ft. single large lab along with a 225 sq ft annex for transformation and tissue culture work, over 880 sq.ft of culture growth space, and a dedicated media kitchen for media preparation. The facility is staffed by a full time manager and a full time assistant to accommodate researcher’s specific needs. The facility operates both as a full service facility delivering transgenics and cell cultures to researchers and a self service facility providing high quality space for researchers to use for their own specific project needs.
