For small holder farmers and their families in sub-Saharan Africa, food security is affected by drought, crop diseases, poor soils and access
to modern technology.  We need to secure people’s access to food
in a sustainable way so they can develop economically.

Nigel is a senior research scientist and principal investigator at the Danforth Center where he is a member of the Institute for International Crop Improvement. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the St. Louis Community College.  Prior to joining the Danforth Center, he worked at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California.   A native of Scotland, Nigel received his bachelor’s degree in botany from University of Glasgow and his Ph.D. in plant tissue culture from the University of Bath, United Kingdom.
