Happy Thanksgiving (2025): A Message from Danforth Center Chair Penny Pennington

Dear Friends,

As we enter the Thanksgiving season, I’m reflecting on what matters most: people—our scientists, our communities, and especially you. Your steadfast support empowers the Danforth Center to pursue real-world impact through plant science in a time of both promise and challenge.

This year has been marked by ambitious growth and tested our resolve. Early in 2025, we publicly launched Future Forward, our bold $165 million campaign to drive breakthroughs in resilient crops, environmental sustainability, and regional innovation.

We also marked a meaningful leadership transition. Dr. Jim Carrington concluded his remarkable tenure as president, and we welcomed Dr. Giles Oldroyd into the role. Their shared commitment to excellence ensures that the Center continues to thrive, with fresh vision for the future and continuity in our mission.

Even as federal funding landscapes shift, our community has stepped up. Donors, board leaders and stakeholders are our momentum. Recent proof-of-concept grants to Danforth teams are helping bridge gaps between discovery and impact—ensuring promising technologies that move from lab bench toward real-world benefit.

Innovation is the engine of progress. At the Danforth Center, innovation means creating lasting value for farmers, families, and communities everywhere. This Thanksgiving, I’m profoundly grateful for your role in making that possible. Your support is fueling innovation and business creation that strengthens our region and delivers solutions far beyond it. On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you.

May your Thanksgiving be rich in warmth, togetherness, and hope.

With gratitude,

Penny Pennington
