(St. Louis Post-Dispatch) New Rules for Federal Funding Would Threaten Critical Research, St. Louis Scientists Say

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Washington University, Saint Louis University and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center have all filed formal comments opposing federal research funding rules that would replace expert peer review with political appointees in federal research funding decisions. Together, St. Louis institutions warn the changes to OMB rules would create funding instability and subordinate merit-based decisions to political influence, threatening critical work across the region, from Alzheimer's research to plant science. These changes take effect in October, or Dec. 11 if a funding bill delays them.
