(Missouri Ruralist) Tomorrow’s Plants May Tell You if Environment is Sick

A collaborative team of researchers from the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, Mo., the University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla., and the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, have developed groundbreaking tools that allow grasses to act as living biosensors capable of detecting minute amounts of chemicals in the field. These sentinel plants could someday include grain crops like corn.
