Kira M. Veley: Rooted in Plant Science

Born and raised in the Midwest, Kira had a fascination with the world of plants from a young age. While she did not grow up on a farm, her close ties with family and friends who worked in agriculture gave her firsthand experience with crops from a young age.

“Seeing both the necessity of plants in our daily lives and also the economic pressures inherent in running a farm made me interested in plants for as long as I can remember,” Kira says. “As I got older and interested in science, plant research seemed like a natural path to try—maybe I could have a positive impact.”
