Sam Wang, Ph.D., member, and E. Desmond Lee and Family Endowed Professor, received the 2014 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research and Creativity from the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) for his groundbreaking research in plant biology.
Wang joined both the Danforth Center and the department of Biology at UMSL as an adjunct professor in 2004. Wang and his collaborators have made important discoveries in cell signaling and have identified genes, pathways and mechanisms that increase oil production in plants. “This is recognition of the excellent work performed by my many past and present graduate students, postdoctoral scientists and undergraduate students that I have had the privilege to work with,” said Wang.
Wang holds several U.S. patents and has published more than 135 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His research is supported by multiple federal agencies including the National Science Foundation and U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Energy and Transportation.
