Dear Danforth Center Community,
With a sense of sadness, but also pride and respect for a good friend and colleague, I announce that Sam Fiorello, Chief Operating Officer and Sr. VP, will be leaving the Danforth Center and joining the Cortex Innovation Community as president and CEO in April 2020. Sam has served on the executive leadership team of the Danforth Center since its inception in 1998, devoting both his professional talent and his sincere passion to creating and building the Center into a great St. Louis institution.
Sam has had an influential hand in everything the Danforth Center has done and achieved, from scientific breakthroughs to the impact we have in the community. His leadership has enabled our community to grow to over 300 members in facilities that are among the best in the world. His leadership enabled creation and development of BRDG Park on our campus, where scientific research and innovation meet the marketplace. And his leadership enables the Danforth Center to support and fuel the 39 North Innovation District. Sam's impact on the Center and our partner organizations will be felt for decades to come.
Taking the lead at Cortex Innovation Community is a tremendous opportunity for Sam and for the St. Louis region. Great opportunities seem to find great people. This move is a reflection of Sam's leadership, vision, outstanding achievements and reputation. He scaled a mountain at the Danforth Center. Sam is drawn away to scale another at Cortex.
I have been honored to work in close partnership with Sam for the past nine years. To me, Sam has been part sounding board and advisor, part problem-solver and facilitator, part voice of reason, and always a trusted leader on the team. Please join me in thanking and congratulating my friend, Sam Fiorello, for all of his service to the Danforth Center and our community. I wish him the very best as he accepts a new challenge!
