The Zhang Lab added its first member, Will McHargue, who will be working as laboratory technician. Will recently graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia where he studied biological engineering (emphasizing in biomedical engineering and biophotonics). During his undergraduate education, Will was heavily involved with several research teams, including computational ecologists, herpetologists, R&D engineering teams. Will developed a passion for working with big datasets. He also spent much of his time creating custom sensors and data collection systems for field deployment.
In the summer of 2015, Will participated in the Danforth Center's Summer REU Program where he worked in Doug Allen's Lab investigation carbon fixation pathways in soybeans using isotopic labeling and mass spectrometry technologies. Will says that he is thrilled to be back at the Danforth Center.
In addition to working as a lab technician, Will is going to serve as the lab’s manager. His first task will be to assist Ru in setting up her new lab. He will also be involved in developing bioinformatics pipelines to process the big datasets that the Zhang Lab will be generating.
We are happy to welcome Will to the Zhang Lab and to the Danforth Family!
