Douglas Allen

Dr. Allen’s research interests include the analysis of metabolic networks in plants by combined experimental and computational methods. These investigations give insight to plant metabolism, important for designing crops to meet future nutritional and chemical feedstock needs. Doug received his Ph.D. in Engineering from Purdue University, has previously worked for the Archer Daniels Midland Company and the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center at Michigan State University, and joined the Danforth Center in the capacity of Research Computational Biologist with the USDA in 2010.

Dr. Fangfang Ma

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Dr. Fangfang Ma joined in the Allen lab in August 2011 as a postdoctoral associate. Pursuing her Ph.D degree in horticultural sciences at Cornell University, Fangfang has established a combined protocol to profile a large number of primary metabolites in apple and is now working with isotopic labeling to investigate metabolism of Arabidopsis and soybean tissues with inorganic and organic 13C substrates. This work will lead to flux analysis that can guide metabolic engineering.

Christine Diepenbrock

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Christine Diepenbrock joined the Allen lab in May 2011 as an NSF-REU summer intern. Christine is studying biology at Washington University with a concentration in molecular biology and biochemistry. She is originally from Raleigh, NC, and became interested in plants, genetic engineering, and patent law through the intersection of multiple courses at Wash. U. Christine is continuing the work started this summer on subcellular compartmentation and isotopic labeling in soybeans and assisting with other projects involving protein purification.

Welcome Jim Gierse to the Team!

We have effectively doubled the size of the Allen lab now, with the hiring of Jim Gierse. Jim brings an excellent technical background in biochemistry and is already proving to be a wonderful addition. Welcome Jim!

Allen Lab is up and running!

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

I arrived at the end of March and have begun the process of setting up my lab.

Equipment and supplies are being purchased and some preliminary experiments are already underway.
