Eliot Herman

Eliot Herman received his Ph.D. from UCSD and was a Supergrade plant physiologist with the USDA/ARS at Beltsville MD and the Danforth Center. He has served as NSF Program Director and as Science Fellow at the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm working on biotechnology regulation. He was awarded the 2004 Plow Award from the US Secretary of Agriculture for his work on food allergies. Dr. Herman’s research interests are in the cell and molecular biology of regulating seed composition. He and Dr. Monica Schmidt created the first biotechnology spin-off from the Danforth Center, Agrius Bioforms LLC.

Monica Schmidt Represented IAPB at Convention Workshop

The meeting was an international workshop for conference venues to network with professional societies. Monica was invited to represent the International Association of Plant Biotechnology.



Visit with Chilean Collaborator

Eliot and Monica Participated in US Embassy Symposia

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Both Eliot and Monica were invited by the US Embassy in Santiago, Chile to participate in a climate change plant biotechnology symposium. There were two days of talks including academic, industry and government representatives from many countries. Chile is currently in the process of reforming their policies regarding transgenic material.
