PREP Program

The Partnership for Research and Education in Plants (PREP) originates from the Fralin Biotechnology Center of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. The Danforth Plant Science Center is one of seven national disemination partners for this formal plant science education program. PREP introduces Arabidopsis thaliana into high school science classrooms as an experimental tool to support lessons in molecular genetics, biotechnology, genomics, plant physiology and bioinformatics. The program provides genuine, open-ended, real value research experiences to high school students and teachers while helping scientists to better understand Arabidopsis gene function.
