Internships

The Danforth Center Summer Internship program exposes students to a rich research environment in a small, friendly institution with a welcoming atmosphere. We have created a program that gives students experience with all aspects of modern scientific research, from design to experimentation to reporting. At the same time, we provide insight into the personal qualities of a good researcher, the steps to take on the road to becoming a scientist, and the broader implications of scientific discovery.

We have created a program that gives students experience with all aspects of modern scientific research, from design to experimentation to reporting. At the same time, we provide insight into the personal qualities of a good researcher, the steps to take on the road to becoming a scientist, and the broader implications of scientific discovery. In order to achieve these goals, students participate in hands-on research in the lab as well as attending weekly seminars.

Students from universities across the nation are paired with Danforth scientists and participate in a diverse set of research areas including:

  • cell biology
  • molecular biology
  • structural biology
  • biochemistry
  • physiology
  • developmental biology
  • genetics
  • plant signaling
  • plant pathology
