BioCassava Plus

BioCassava Plus is an integrated team of scientists from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America whose objective is to reduce malnutrition among the 250 million people in sub-Saharan Africa who rely on cassava as their staple food by delivering a more nutritious and marketable cassava.

Team Members

The BC Plus community include team members representing research scientists, in-country product development managers, project coordinators, scientific board advisors, nutritionists, biosafety, communication, and donors. Major partners include:

The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, a not-for-profit research institute with a mission to improve the human condition through plant science. The Danforth Center contributes project management, biosafety and biotechnology expertise.

The Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI), a leader in providing seed and seed delivery systems to small-scale farmers in Kenya. They contribute expertise in soil science, breeding and field evaluation.

The National Root Crop Research Institute in Nigeria, is a premier agricultural research organization and a leader in root crop research. They contribute expertise in breeding, farmer preferences and field evaluation.

The project is supported by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the National Root Crop Research Institute of Nigeria and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center.
