Severe rotting of cassava storage roots causes up to 50% crop loss
in certain endemic areas of India. Constant association of
Phytophthora sp with the disease was recorded. A Survey was
conducted to determine the extent of spread of the disease.
Characteristic symptoms as well as morphological features of the
pathogen were described. Selective isolation of the pathogen from
the soil and the role of biological control agents on soil
population of the pathogen were attempted. Differential reaction of
cassava varieties to infection by the fungus was also studied.
