Dear colleagues,

The goal of the Poty Web Page is to provide information about taxonomy, references, and sequence databases of members of the Potyviridae family.

At the present time, we will start with general information about Potyviridae, and soon we will have a Potyvirus DataBase of nucleic and amino-acid sequences for all of the potyviruses sequenced so far, including their entire sequence or their isolated cistrons (Poty DataBase).

When this database is complete, a document titled “Sequence Db Read Me First” will contain the information how to retrieve these sequences.  The sequences will be in ASCII format and will not require any specific software. The goal of this database is not to duplicate the GenBank or the EMBL for potyviruses, but to facilitate access to potyvirus sequences for those that do not have access to these banks, and to offer, in a concise format, only potyvirus sequences.

The Poty Web Pages also include a set of relevant bibliographic information.
