Eliot Herman's Laboratory








USDA Years
Dr. Herman was a USDA/ARS plant molecular biologist located at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center as the result of a cooperative agreement resulting from the efforts of Sen. Christopher "Kit" Bond. Dr. Herman occupied this position from 2001-2008 when he left USDA employment to become a Danforth Center member. He was the lead scientist of the USDA project "Genetic Enhancement of Soybean Seed Value by Biotechnology" that had the goals to alter seed composition to remove food allergens and to improve quality and value by expressing foreign proteins including feed constituents and industrial enzymes. Dr. Herman was promoted to the Supergrade level in the federal civil service in 2008 in recognition of the impact of his career. For his work on soybean allergens he was award the USDA's highest award the Plow Award by Secretary of Agriculture Veneman in 2004 .
