Become a Docent

Docents are the Center's representatives and personal links to visitors. They play a crucial role in educating visitors about the importance of plant science and the Danforth Center’s global mission. Primarily, they provide this service to groups of adults and older teens.

If you think you'd like to be a Docent, you should know that:

  • Docents should have a strong belief in the Center’s mission and an eagerness to share that knowledge with others; be comfortable with public speaking; and be punctual and reliable.
  • Docents must complete a 6-session training track, offered 2 times a year (and participate in refresher sessions as needed).
  • The minimum time commitment is 2 tours per month for 1 year. (Tours are approx. 1 hour.)

  • If you are a "plant-minded" person interested in learning more and communicating about the wonders of plant science, please email or phone (314-587-1073) Chandra Thurman.

No plant science background or previous experience is required - just a belief that we need to preserve the earth for future generations!
