The subcellular accumulation of MP can be followed by monitoring a chimera between the MP and green fluorescent protein (GFP), a protein originally isolated from jellyfish (Aequorea victoria). GFP emits green fluorescence when exposed to ultraviolet light and can be observed by confocal and fluorescence microscopy.
