The Missouri Botanical Garden is one of the world's leading botanical research institutes, with extensive programs in Latin America, Africa, China, and North America. The Garden has outstanding informatics capabilities in tropical and temperate plant research.
Purdue University located in West Lafayette, Indiana, was founded in 1869 as a land-grant university and is one of the nation's leading research and teaching institutions. The School of Agriculture is one of the founding divisions of Purdue.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is the largest and oldest public university in the State of Illinois. Chartered in 1867 as the state's land-grant institution, the U of I has been a leader in plant and agricultural research since that time.
The University of Missouri-Columbia is a land-grant university that was founded in 1839. The University has a strong College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources with field operations throughout the state of Missouri and boasts an outstanding group of plant scientists who are experts in the areas of maize and soybean genetics, biochemistry, physiology and molecular biology.

Founded in 1853, the University ranks among the nation's leaders in higher education. The University has world-class strengths in health care, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, computer science, physiology, and historical strengths in the plant sciences.
