General Information

General Information
The conference will take place June 18-22, 2012 at the Speke Resort and Conference Centre where all conference participants will stay. Located on the shore of Lake Victoria at Munyonyo in Kampala, Uganda, it is approximately 90 minutes from Entebbe by car. Participants should plan to arrive at Entebbe Airport (EBB) in Uganda on Sunday, June 17.

Registration Payment
Unless you are a Travel Grant Applicant, Invited Speaker or Conference Organizer, you must pay the $350 registration fee when you register. You will be prompted for a password during the registration process which is linked to the e-mail with which you register. With this password, you may later enter the Post-Registration Portal to upload your abstracts, register your guests and enter your arrival/departure information.

Abstract Submission
Submit your abstracts in the Post-Registration section of Registration. You will use your e-mail and the password you set to enter the Post-Registration portal. To submit your abstract, select oral or poster presentation and the session in which your presentation belongs. Attach a Word file of your abstract to the automatic e-mail message that appears and hit send. Repeat this process for each abstract that you submit.

Abstract Guidelines
Total of 1700 characters, with spaces, for title, authors, address and text. Font: Arial 11. Underline the name of the author who will present the poster or make the presentation.

Satellite Meeting
The Generation Challenge Programme-sponsored satellite meeting on the Integrated Breeding Platform Project (IBP) will take place June 23-24, 2012 at the same venue as the GCP21-II conference. Participation is by invitation only to those who apply through the Satellite Meeting page after registering for the GCP21-II conference. The local costs of participation in the 2-day workshop (registration, hotel and meals) will be covered by the Generation Challenge Programme.

Hotel Reservation Unless you are a Travel Grant Applicant, invited Speaker or Conference Organizer, you must make your own hotel reservation using the Location and Accommodation link provided. Put "GCP21" in the Special Requirements or Comments box to get the guaranteed rate.

Transportation to the hotel
We shall organize your transportation to the hotel (arrivals June 16 and 17 only) and airport (departures June 22 and 23) which is paid for by your registration fee. At the airport just in front of the exit from customs, there will be a help desk (identified by a conference banner) staffed with conference organizers to help you access the hotel shuttle and to help with any questions or problems.

Ugandan Currency
The currency in Uganda is the Uganda shilling. You can change your currency at the airport banks or ATM machines.

Visa
You are responsible for obtaining your visa for Uganda and verifying all the requirements. Be sure that your passport has a validity of at least six months from the date of your intended travel. American nationals holding USA passports need an entry visa for Uganda. Nationals of the countries listed below are exempted from visa requirements for travel to Uganda. They do, however, need to have a current passport issued by their respective countries: Members of COMESA: Angola, Burundi, Comoros, Eritrea, Kenya, Malawi Mauritius, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Others exempted are: Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Fiji, Gambia, Grenada, Jamaica, Lesotho, Malta, Sierra Leone, Singapore Solomon Islands St Vincent & the Grenadines, Tonga, Vanuatu, Italy (Only diplomatic passport holders) and Cyprus. Please check with your nearest Uganda embassy to determine your requirements for a visa to enter Uganda. Many nationalities are allowed to purchase a visa upon entering the country at the Entebbe airport by filling out a form. The cost for non-African visitors is US $50 or 50 euros, payable in cash only. This method does not take more time to go through the line than for those who have acquired their visa before arrival. Be sure you have the exact amount with you when you arrive. You may prefer to get your visa in advance from the Embassy or from a visa expediting service. Although the visa processing time with the Ugandan Embassy in Washington, D.C. is listed as 5 working days, be sure to allow plenty of time for your visa request to allow for shipping, holidays or heavy travel periods. Invitation Letter
After you register, please contact Pat Cosgrove (pcosgrove@danforthcenter.org) if you need an invitation letter. Please provide your complete contact details, specify whether you will use the letter to request a visa from an embassy or to obtain support from your institute, and provide any specific information that the letter should include.

Health Requirements
The Ugandan Embassy requires an international Inoculation Certificate against yellow fever Please also check with your local travel medical professional for protection against malaria and diarrhea.
